Gauged brickwork displays incredibly tight joints, which results in clean, artful lines and curves, which gives buildings striking definition. Gauged bricks are created with very precise dimensions in mind; their size and shape must be extremely accurate to ensure both that the joints between them are thin, and that the lines of the building are regular and true. It is frequently the case that bricks require manual shaping to allow for the best possible fit – a true artform.
